Population of Samosir Regency based on Samosir in Figure Book (2015) estimated about 123.065. It was the estimation projection for 2014 based on 2013 population data. Consisted of 61.080 males (49,63 % of total population) and 61.985 females (50,37 % of total population). Compared to the area of Samosir Regency 1.444,25 square kilometer, the density value is 85,21 population per square kilometers. The total population is covered from 29.759 households. It indicates that the average population per household is about 4,14. Population distribution per sub-district are as described below.

Simanindo sub-district population 20.069 compared to the sub-district area 198,20 square kilometers, the density is 101,26 population per square kilometer. Pangururan sub-district 30.283 population with area 121,43 square kilometers, the density is 248,39 population per square kilometers. Ronggurnihuta sub-district 8.384 population with area 94,87 square kilometers, the density is 90,48 population per square kilometer. Palipi sub-district 16.550 population, area 129,55 square kilometer, the density is 127,75.
Nainggolan sub-district 12.189 population, area 87,86 square kilometers, the density is 138,73 population per square kilometers. Onan Runggu sub-district 10.624 population, area 60,89 square kilometers, the density is 174,48. Sitiotio sub-district 7.302 population, area 50,76 square kilometers, the density is 143,85 population per square kilometer. The total population of Samosir Regency that inhabits west part of Toba caldera is 24.766, total area 751,45 square kilometers, the population density is about 33 population per square kilometer.
Statistic Board of Samosir Regency described the regency population based on age group and sex. The data grouped by range 5 year old for an age group. For this case, I want to show the information about the age range to productivity issue. As showed in Samosir in Figure (2015), Statistic Office of Samosir Regency grouped age range for labor task from 15 years old to 59 years old. The age group distribution is age group 0-15 years old is 44.875, age group 15-59 is 65.724, more than 60 years old is 12.466. This age group range probably based on the government education program target 'Mandatory 9 years study' in Indonesia.
