Samosir Regency: Education

As introduced in previous section, Indonesia education ministry had 'mandatory 9 years study' program but currently has planned to mandatory target 12 years study. The educational levels in Indonesia are from lowest to highest, Play Group, Kindergarten (Taman Kanak-kanak), Primary School (Sekolah Dasar/SD), Junior High School (Sekolah Menengah Pertama/SMP), Senior High School (Sekolah Menengah Umum/SMU) has the same level with Vocational Senior High School (Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan/SMK), College (Diploma I, II, III, commonly known in Indonesia as Akademi), University (Universitas) for Graduated and Post Graduated Education has the same level as Institute (Institut) and High School (Sekolah Tinggi).

Mandatory 9 years study in Indonesia means that government provided all facilities and supports for citizen to finish study until Junior High School level. The common time frame for school in Indonesia are Primary School for 6 years, Junior High School for three years, Senior High School or Vocational Senior High School for three years, College or Academy for three years and University about 3-4 years. The education time frame above explain that mandatory 9 years study targeting until Junior High School level. The current government has planned to upgrade the program to mandatory 12 years study or until Senior High School or Vocational High School Study.

The above explanation figure out the probably reason of Statistic Board Office to group age range 15-59 years old as labor force age group. Meanwhile, if the 12 years study mandatory applied, the education level target should be until Senior High School or Vocational Senior High School. For the range of ages, the Samosir Regency population distribution will be 0-19 years old 57.299, 20-59 years old 53.300, and above 60 years old 12.466.

In August 2014 data of Statistic Board Office of Samosir Regency,  the education level attainment as describe below. Never or no yet attending school, Males 8.357, Females 12.958. total Total 21.315. Did not or not yet completed Primary School Males 9.677, Females 7.058, Total 16.735. Graduated Primary School Males 10.661, Females 10.587, Total 21.248. Junior High School, Males 3.841, Females2.107, Total 5.948. Senior High School, Males 298, Females 1.200, Total 1.498. Academy and University, Males 2.035, Females 1.936, Total 3.971. Based on the explanation, the grand total of population that have attended schools is Males 34.689, Females 35.846, Total 70.715. The grand total of population that have graduated above Junior High School is Males 6.174, Females 5.243, Total 11.417. 

In 2014, the number of school buildings in Samosir Regency based on sub-districts is described below. Kindergarten in Simanindo sub-district 1 unit, Pangururan 1 unit and Nainggolan 1 unit. Primary School buildings, In Simanindo sub-district 31 units, Pangururan 38 units, Ronggurnihuta 12 units, Palipi 29 units, Nainggolan 22 units, Onan Runggu 21 units, Sitiotio 16 units, Harian 12 units, Sianjur Mulamula 22 units. Junior High School building in Simanindo sub-district 5 units, Pangururan 6 units, Ronggurnihuta 3 units, Palipi 5 units, Nainggolan 3 units, Onan Runggu 4 units, Sitiotio 3 units, Harian 3 units and Sianjur Mulamula 2 units. Senior High School buildings in Simanindo sub-district 2 units, Pangururan 2 units, Palipi 1 unit, Nainggolan 1 unit and Harian 1 unit.
