Samosir Island formed almost the same as the Toba Lake form. It is lenghtwise from North-West to South-East. The island parallel to east and west caldera side. The northern and southern tips of Samosir Island is narrower than the center part. The most narrowest part is in northern tip and the wider part is in the center part.Below images show the measurement result of Samosir Island Length and Wide.

The length of Samosir Island is vertically from North-West to South-East area. Vertical measurement of Samosir Island show the distance from most north point to most south point. The image above shows the measurement points positions which indicated the straight line distance is about 44,30 kilometers length.

The horizontal measurement indicated the wider part of Samosir Island about 20,26 kilometer width. The most wider part of Samosir Island  is from the west shoreline to east shoreline of Samosir Island. The image Samosir Island width shows the position of two point in the most wider area in the center part of Samosir Island.

Measurement using map shows the distance of two points connected with a line. As a geological measurement, this measurement is not included the terrain and differences in height of the terrain. That is why the measurement using map is difference with the measurement using measure tap. Measurement using measure tape have significant weakness because the distance that can be measured is limited and the aloofness of the tape influence the measurement result.
