Previous Humbang Hasundutan Regency
Humbang Hasundutan in Figures 2017 (Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS Humbang Hasundutan, 2017) mention that Humbang Hasundutan Regency geographic position is Latitude between 2 Degree 1’ North - 2 Degree 28’ North , and Longitude between 98 Degree 10’ East - 98 Degree 58’ East. Due to the geographical position, Humbang Hasundutan Regency is in Tropical Climate Region. The climate is only dry season and rainy season.
The elevation of Humbang Hasundutan Regency is about 330 metres - 2.075 metres above sea level. The elevation influence the air condition. Mostly dry, moist and colder in dry season wet and warmer in rainy season. The climate classified as wet tropic climate with temperature range about 17 - 29 Degree Celcius (C).
Average of rainfall in Humbang Hasundutan per months in 2016 based on observation stations was 208,06 mm with 18 raining days per month. Ussually, the dry season between April to September, and the rainy season started in October to March. In 2016, probably the longest dry months in the year. There were only a few rainfall in the year. The condition caused bad yields of agricultural in the area. And forces the olds in Humbang Hasundutan to make a Batak's traditional ceremony due to the weather condition. There is a belief, that something bad with the locals attitudes which cause the anger of 'Mula Jadi Na Bolon' The Batak's God, and make the few rainfalls in the area.
The Indian Ocean in the west of Sumatra Island have significant influence to Humbang Hasundutan climate. In October to December, clouds formations in Indian Ocean brought by the wind to the Bukit Barisan Mountain. The air and clouds got cooler in the height of Bukit Barisan Mountain, caused most of Humbang Hasundutan area have colder air. Mostly in the months, rainfalls higher in Humbang Hasundutan Regency.
