Tanjung Boay Beach

When I was working for a nickel mining company in East Halmahera, North Moluccas Province, i had a chance to explore nearby earth. East Halmahera is a regency in North Moluccas Province. The regency is in Eastern part of Halmahera Island. The capital of East Halmahera Regency is Maba. A coastal city in East Halmahera Bay. Maba consists of two village, Maba and Maba Sangaji village. There are some small islands in East Halmahera Bay. And a lot of reefs which just a few meters below the sea surface. Most of the small islands have sandy white beaches. Only some of the small island have population that live in it, mostly are not inhabited.

Near Maba, there is Wailukum village. This village is almost in the center of the inner side of East Halmahera Bay. The houses of the locals distributed along the shoreline. The houses just a few meters from the gray to almost black sandy beach.  About 1 kilometer to North of Wailukum village, there is Tanjung Boay. Tanjung Boay is the area where i did most of my job. Started from finding a place to build jetty, surveying and mapping the area, drilling for find out the sediments distribution, tide survey for tide range measurement and determine 0 meter sea level, bathymetry survey for sea depth distribution and then manage the jetty, loading and unloading to Bulk Carrier after the company continue the mining operation.

Geological process in the island is actively progressing. Some evidence i found is the up lifted of the island. The reefs that used to be in the sea, lifted to be the land.  In the time, I have opportunity to saw and documented  the natural geological progress in the area. A 60 meters high small hill in Tanjung Boay proved that the natural power of Earth has it own art as found in other part of globe. The progress involved fresh water and sea water that erode stones in the hill, created natural form and pattern in the hills. That amazing earth creation found just in one place, Tanjung Boay. Many forms of colored stones spread along the shore lines. The color of the stones influenced by the mineral types in the stones. It influences the hardness and strength of the stones too. Some of the stones have been fell down to the beach and watering by seawater. Some tied by the plants roots. Erosion process had exposed some of the hill part to surface. Showed the Earth Carved that created by natural processes of the earth.
